Press Release

NCD Introduces Low Cost mini-PACS Service Eastlake (Cleveland) Ohio. NCD Medical Corporation (NCD) introduced it's new mini-PACS (Picture Archiving and Communications System) web-based service at the recent Radiology Society North America (RSNA) conference in Chicago. This unique service enables Healthcare facilities to store, manage and access X-ray (DICOM) data using an outsource service. The major advantage to this low cost service is it does not require a capital investment and can cost less than $.75/study/year. The mini-PACS service, called e-WIX, is easily deployed and provides rapid access to DICOM information. The service will provide access direct at the facility where the DICOM information is produced or via the internet from the e-WIX hosting system at NCD headquarters for remote access from a clinic, imaging center, physician's office and/or the user's home.

NCD will provide a gateway/storage (G/S) server (no charge) that collects data from the DICOM producing modalities. The data is stored on the G/S server to provide local access and the data also is compressed and transferred to e-WIX hosting servers in Ohio for remote access and archiving. Older data is removed from the local G/S server at preselected time intervals (30 days, 60 days, etc., after the patient care period) to make room for current data. Older data is available to local and remote users from the e-WIX hosts via the web. The e-WIX application allows the DICOM data to be viewed lossy using the browser based e-WIX viewer or downloaded lossless to the user's workstation for viewing with a standard DICOM viewer. The e-WIX application allows for multiple search capability, annotation, worklist and e-mail in multiple formats (JPEG, PDF, BMP, DICOM). The user's standard DICOM viewer usually provides for image manipulation and processing. The e-WIX hosting site has both a primary system with raid storage and a secondary system with redundant capability. A third system with redundant data is at a co-location site 150 miles away from NCD headquarters. Full back-ups to removable hard drives are performed monthly and the drives are moved off site. All data is protected behind multiple firewalls and transmitted encrypted. A log which tracks and records file names, users, dates and time of usage can be accessed, complying with HIPAA requirements.

The e-WIX ASP (Application Service Provider) service also can host document images such as medical records, reports, accounting, HR records and etc. NCD offers scanning services “free” when customers subscribe to e-WIX document services. As a central repository ASP service, e-WIX can provide a total electronic solution to accessing both DICOM and paper based information instantaneously from any authorized workstation.

NCD also provides additional solutions to Healthcare facilities including secured hardcopy storage, archive and access of X-ray film and/or paper records. Access can be electronic via scan on demand/electronic transfer, upload to e-WIX mini-PACS or hardcopy delivery. NCD also provides a multitude of digital solutions including flat panel and CCD Direct Radiography (DR), Computer Radiography (CR), X-ray film digitizing and refurbished diagnostic imaging systems including X-ray, CT, and MRI.

NCD specializes in solutions for mid-size and smaller hospitals, imaging centers, clinics and physician centers. For more information go to www.ncdmedical.com or call (440) 953-4488.
