Computed Radiography (CR)

There are two primary methods to converting analog (film producing) x-ray systems to digital output. The first and most expensive is Direct Radiography (DR). The most popular and less expensive method is Computed Radiography (CR).

Today's CR systems are similar, using media without film processing. A cassette loaded with a reusable phosphorous plate is inserted into the table or wall bucky. After the x-ray is shot, the exposed cassette with plate is removed from the bucky and inserted into a CR Reader which converts the exposed phosphorous plate to a digital image which is then transferred to a CR workstation. The image can be reviewed, read, stored, and/or transferred to a PACS or to a remote location. The cassette/plate can then be removed from the CR reader and reused.

CR systems range from low-performance single cassette loading readers at $20,000 to high-performance multi-bay, multi-loading cassettes at more than $100,000. Although NCD Medical can generally source a variety of used/refurbished CR systems including Kodak (CareStream), Fuji, AGFA, Philips, and Orex, we focus our new CR Systems sales with the Low-Cost OPTIMA.
